New alliance aims to make Nevada esports hub

A group of businesses, advocates and academics have formed an association focused on advancing the development of Nevada as a global hub for esports.

The Nevada Esports Alliance is a new non-profit organization that plans to boost the state as the center of the convergence of video gaming and the casino industry.

Nevada regulators approved rules for skill-based gaming last year and that has led to growth in esports competitions and wagering on game outcomes. In addition, the first esports lab opened last year at UNLV’s International Gaming Institute.

Several top industry figures have launched the Nevada Esports Alliance in response to the developing overlap between video games and gambling.

The NVEA is a not-for-profit organization which will try to establish Nevada as a global esports hub.

Downtown’s Evel Pie Celebrates Grand Opening

The all-American, Evel Knievel-themed pizzeria Evel Pie celebrated its grand opening on Friday, Dec. 16 in Downtown Las Vegas with a pizza party benefitting the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (NPHY) and a grand opening celebration later in the evening.

The festivities kicked off with an “Evel” pizza party for the kids of NPHY. General manager and chef Vincent Rotolo started by giving a brief history of Las Vegas legend Evel Knievel and why he is such an inspiration for the working man. The kids were then led through a pizza-making demonstration before being taught how to make their their own “Cheesy Rider” pizzas, which were made and enjoyed by all attendees.

eSports governing bodies will have to submit a request no less than 30-days before their event begins if they have any chance of stopping a Las Vegas sportsbook from offering odds at one of their events according to an eSports news writer.
